To realize our vision of preparing our students for college and an evolving technology driven world, we need your help. Given our families' economic status, we do not have the resources of schools in the Oakland hills where PTA programs raise up to $600,000 per year beyond their government funds. Students in Oakland’s flatlands -- where the high school and middle school drop-out rates are among the highest in the state -- need additional support to reach grade-level academic proficiency and have the tools to finish high school and go to college.
Since the beginning of 2006, we've raised over $10,000, which we've used to expand our library collection, send a student to Washington, D.C. for a youth conference, and add computers to classrooms. This year, we hope to raise $25,000 to fund our Expanding Horizons campaign. Most of CCPA's students have never traveled outside of Oakland, and nearly all of them will be the first in their families to go to college. Expanding Horizons will send them on educational field trips and college tours designed to turn the abstract idea of college into a concrete reality.
